FAVORITE RIDES
Some of our favorite rides!
Some
rides to test your skill and your gears...................................
Below are a few favorite rides. Cyclists from all around have enjoyed the New River Valley
while
biking & cycling these rides departing from The Train Station in
downtown Pulaski, the parking lot at the Draper Valley Baptist Church or other
strategic points in the NRV. Ride them and exercise caution - think safety
at all times, wear a helmet.
I hope to add rides to this list.

"The 4-Mountain Ride" Most of our rides begin and end at
The Train
Station in downtown Pulaski, VA and this one is no exception. The
4-Mountain Ride is up and over Little Walker Mountain, Big Walker Mountain and back
again. A 36 mile ride ascending 3320 feet altogether with climbs
averaging in the 6% range.
-
"Cox
Hollow"
This is an easy out-n-back 18 mile ride cyclists enjoy the next day after a
hard ride. With no climbs, it can
be a rather fast paced or it can easily make for an excellent next day recovery ride.

"Back
Creek" New River Valley biking at it's best, just over 20 miles through some beautiful farm country
in Pulaski County - there are a few hills but overall a nice
mixture of level and downhill with easy climbs, a favorite ride of cyclists
through beautiful New River Valley.

"Gatewood
Park"
This ride starts with a tough but short 8.5-9% climb. It is a
19.6 mile ride out of town to a beautiful park nestled in the foothills of the
New River Valley. It offers biking, overnight camping, fishing, hiking and lots of nature activities.
This ride is one of my favorites because it gives way to some fast
cycling back into the town of Pulaski. Get-a-Map
-
"To Wytheville"
This is a 39 mile ride leaving either from my house or the
Draper Valley Baptist Church parking lot. It follows the I-81 frontage
road to the town of Wytheville. From there we ride Peppers Ferry Road and back
through Max Meadows. This is an absolutely beautiful ride offering
challenges on every turn. A must try ride!
-
"Fish
Hatchery"
This is a 24 mile excursion through some farm land in
Wythe County. This ride follows Reed Creek for a while and passes by an active
fish hatchery along the way. Good ride, you've got to go.

"Draper via Panter's Woods" This
is a 14.2 mile leisure ride leaving from my house. It follows the Frontage Road
south by Draper Valley Golf Club and crosses over I-81 at the next overpass.
A nice comfortable ride through farmland which parallels the New River Trail
into Draper. The loop comes together again on the frontage road and
finishes either at my driveway or the Draper Valley Baptist Church parking
lot.
-
"Road & Trail Combo" This
is a 14.5 mile loop. It starts at what we call the 'Rock Pile' at the
end of State Route 99 south out of Pulaski - plenty of parking available.
Ride North on Old Rt. 100 nearly 0.350 miles and turn right onto Lowman's
Ferry Road. After crossing Claytor Lake, at the stop sign turn right.
In Hiwassee, turn right onto the old RR trussel which is now part of the New
River Trail and crosses over Claytor Lake. Follow the Trail back to
Draper, pick up Old Baltimore Road to Old Route 100 and back to the 'Rock
Pile' parking lot. (presented by Lee Chitwood)
