Introduction
Welcome to
TheDrivewayGear home page!
Come and explore for yourself the cycling
and outdoor opportunities in Pulaski County Virginia
and the New River Valley...................................
Cycling, hiking, walking and running in Pulaski County Virginia and the New
River Valley adds unique
challenges to one's outdoor pleasure due to the mountainous terrain and
seasonal weather.
I am remembered by the owner of a bike shop in
North Carolina as "The person with driveway gears." My home is on
the south side of Draper Mountain in Pulaski County, Virginia and my
driveway is 4/10ths of a mile, averaging 9.5% (the last pull is 23%). Not wanting to push my bike, I asked
for gears to climb my driveway. Those same gears have become favorites
of mine to ascend
many of the mountains in the New River Valley.
My purpose with this website is to inform
those who visit of the cycling opportunities and riding pleasures in Pulaski County, Southwest
Virginia and the New River Valley - to encourage those of you who enjoy the
outdoors and riding bicycles - to join
others of us who
receive pleasure from cycling across our beautiful landscape. This
site has no club affiliation, no members and no dues but is an informative
site only. Personal donations help to sponsor the site - a
representation of their support to continue the promotion of bicycling and
recreation in the area.
Soon we hope to see an extension from down town
Pulaski to the NR Trail - a testimonial of the support from our Town and
County to encourage cycling, hiking and generally outdoor activities of all
types. The New River Trail Extension is a must see and use to
appreciate.
In a prayer once a person with whom I ride said,
"Thank you Lord for allowing us to see the beauty of thy creation in slow motion." What a
wonderful way to express cycling, walking and hiking in our world today!
